One of HANAC's many services is to provide free English classes for adult immigrants. Our aim is to provide non-native English speakers with the tools they need to be come active members of the community. We offer HSE classes to prepare people to take the exam needed to obtain a High School Equivalency Diploma. Classes are free of charge and open to anyone 18 years of age or older.

ESL Classes/HSE Classes
You must register now for classes starting in September! Classes are held in the mornings, evenings and on Saturday mornings from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at any one of the sites listed below and a Saturday class from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm in Astoria
The program serves the large multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee population that reside in Western Queens. The program operates from September through June with classes meeting Monday through Thursday mornings, evenings and on Saturday mornings.
The classes offer oral and written English instruction for ESL literacy and can accommodate any level of proficiency from those with virtually no literacy skills to those with advanced levels of English language proficiency. The program focuses on oral language acquisition, integrating various methods of instruction appropriate for each level such as Basic Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Instruction is enhanced through the use of computer technology in the classroom.
High School Equivalency (HSE) and HSE Programs in English
The HANAC HSE Program is offered in English at the George Douris Tower in Astoria to any individual who is pursuing a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma.
