English As A Second Language (ESOL) Program

The HANAC ESOL Program serves the large multi-ethnic immigrant and refugee population that reside in the Western Queens area. Our program operates from September to June, with classes meeting Monday through Friday from 6:00-9:30pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Students attend two class sessions per week.

Our ESOL program offers oral and written English instruction for ESOL literacy, and can accommodate any level of student, from those with virtually no literacy skills to those with advanced levels of English language proficiency.

The program focuses on oral language acquisition, integrating various methods and instruction appropriate for each level, such as Basic Literacy, Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Instruction is enhanced through the use of computer technology in the classroom.

Funding for the HANAC ESOL Program, located at Middle School 204, is provided by both the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development and the State Education Department.
